African Elections Project to Cover Guinea Elections 2010

 The African Elections Project (AEP) www.africanelections.org/guinea will be covering Guinea's general election, taking place on Sunday 27^th of June 2010 to elect a president out of  24 candidates.  AEP was established in 2008 to empower journalists to cover elections using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) across the continent. AEP have successfully covered elections in Botswana, Namibia, Ghana, Mauritania, Mozambique, Malawi, Togo and with plans far advanced to cover Cote d' Ivoire, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Tanzania, Uganda, Cameroon and Niger.

The role of the media in ensuring free and fair elections is indispensable. All over the world the media is playing this important role of ensuring free and fair elections by working with all stakeholders across board. According to Kwami Ahiabenu,II AEP project lead consultant, "African Elections Project is working with media and civil society stakeholders to strengthen the electoral process by providing independent information through impartial coverage using building blocks of training of senior editors, journalists and reporters in the use of ICTs in elections coverage as well as SMS application in coverage and monitoring, Election Guide for the Media, Information and Knowledge Online Portal,  Knowledge products for the media and  Media Monitoring incorporating early warning system."

In addition to its flagship online portal www.africanelections.org/guinea , AEP is covering this elections using other new media tools such as facebook, frontlinesms,  twitter  http://twitter.com/guineaelections  and  have set up elections mapping tool using ushahidi with  with its partners, Guinea Alliance at http://africanelections.org/guinea/maps/

The African Elections Project is coordinated by Ghana based International Institute for ICT Journalism (www.penplusbytes.org ) working hand in hand with other key partners across the continent. The Open Society Initiative for West Africa www.osiwa.org  is the main strategic and funding partner for AEP project in Guinea.

Le projet sur les élections en Afrique couvrira la présidentielle de Guinée 2010.

le projet sur les élections en Afrique (AEP) www.africanelections.org/guinea  couvrira le scrutin présidentiel de la Guinée le 27 juin prochain avec 24 candidats en lice. AEP a été mis en place en 2008 pour renforcer les capacités des journalistes à couvrir les élections en utilisant les Technologies de l'Information et de la Communication  à travers les continents. AEP a couvert avec succès les élections au Botswana, en Namibie, au Ghana, en Mauritanie, au Mozambique, au Malawi, au Togo et se prépare à couvrir les prochaines élections en Côte d'Ivoire, au Nigeria, au Burkina Faso, en Tanzanie, en Ouganda, au Cameroun et au Niger.

Le rôle des médias à garantir des élections libre et équitable est indispensable. Dans tout le monde entier, les médias jouent cet important rôle en travaillant avec tous les partis prenants. Selon Kwami Ahiabenu,II consultant principal du projet AEP, « Le projet sur les élections en Afrique travaille avec les médias et la société civile pour renforcer le processus électoral en donnant une information juste  à travers une couverture impartiale utilisant les compétences d'éditeurs, de journalistes et de reporters dans l'utilisations des TIC. Il utilise également une application SMS dans la couverture et le suivi des élections, édite un guide du reporter, crée et anime un portail d'information et de connaissance en ligne sans oublier les produits de connaissances réalisés à l'intention des médias et pour le suivi de leurs actions sur le terrain.

En plus du portail en ligne www.africanelections.org/guinea , AEP couvre, les présentes élections en utilisant d'autres nouveaux médias  a savoir Facebook, Frontlinesms, Twitter http://twitter.com/guineaelections  Blogging et a mis en place un outil de cartographie des élections utilisant la technologie USHAHIDI avec ses partenaires Guinée alliance http://www.africanelections.org/guinea/maps

AEP est coordonné par un institut basé au Ghana chargé de promouvoir les Tic(www.penplusbytes.org ). Il travaille main dans la main avec d'autres partenaires sur le continent. South Africa : McLeod, Dingle named ICT journalists of the year

TechCentral editor Duncan McLeod and Finweek technology correspondent Simon Dingle have been named joint ICT journalists of the year at the inaugural Telkom Classic Business Journalist of the Year Awards.

The awards, the ceremony for which was held at Summer Place in Sandton on Thursday, was organised to recognise excellence in business journalism.

The ceremony was officiated by higher education minister Blade Nzimande, with Classic Business host John Fraser and Telkom chief financial officer Peter Nelson.

The ICT category was one of five main categories in the awards.

McLeod left Financial Mail in September 2009 to found TechCentral, now SA's fastest-growing business technology news website. He continues to write a column on technology issues for the FM.

Dingle is technology correspondent at Finweek and Fin24.com and also hosts the weekly ZA Tech Show netcast. McLeod is a regular panellist on the ZA Tech Show.

The overall Telkom Classic Business Journalist of the Year award went to former FM journalist Rob Rose, who recently joined the Sunday Times as an investigative reporter.
