2012 Diaspora Media Conference @ Rutgers University Campus, USA

Greetings!

Journalists from the around the world will converge on Rutgers University campus in Newark for a one-day conference to improve reporting in and from countries that are hostile to an open press.
Newspaper, radio, TV, and online journalists from 20 or more countries are expected to participate. The conference is co-sponsored by the Center for Media & Peace Initiatives, a New York-based organization of journalists from around the world.

The June 8 conference is the first in the series of a planned series of events to improve reporting in and from countries that lack free press. It will be followed by a week-long institute, featuring more in-depth examination of the issues, and a four-course online certificate program taught by Rutgers faculty. The courses, each five weeks long, are:

1. Public Performance Measurement - tools for assessing government efficiency and effectiveness
2. Journalism and Government - the relationship between reporters and media, working with bureaucrats and public agencies
3. Political Culture - how to understand and work effectively within the culture of the reporters' home countries
4. Policy Analysis - how to understand and report government plans and actions, including public budgets.

DATE: June 8, 2012
TIME: 9am - 6p.m.
LOCATION: School of Public Affairs and Administration, Rutgers Newark Campus, 111 Washington Street.

The June 8 conference is open to the public. Registration is $59 and early bird fee of $49. To register, or for more information, please contact Dr. Michael Gershowitz (973-353-3703; mgersh@andromeda.rutgers.edu) or

Global Voices seeks Deputy Editor

Global Voices seeks a Deputy Editor to help manage daily content flow in English. Global Voices in English is a central focal point for more than 500 bloggers and translators around the world who work together to report on blogs and citizen media everywhere, with emphasis on voices that are not ordinarily heard in international mainstream media. We are a global, virtual organization led by a team of part-time editors who work with volunteer authors around the world across multiple time zones, communicating primarily by email and regional mailing lists.
The Deputy Editor must possess professional and personal skills to help the site maintain and expand its role as the leading website for translating, contextualizing, and amplifying international citizen media.
