Featured Member for the Month of November: Thembo Kahungu Misairi

Thembo Kahungu Misairi is a professional journalist working with the Uganda Radio Network, an online news agency that collects news from across Uganda and supply to subscribers worldwide.

Thembo holds a Diploma in Journalism from the Uganda Institute of Business and Media Studies. He also a tutor at the Liberty College of Management and Journalism based in Kasese town in the western part of Uganda.

His docket for the Uganda Radio Network also focuses on the issues in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, an area that has been embroiled in armed conflicts for about two decades.

Thembo is the coordinator of Umbrella for Journalists in Kasese, a local organization that brings together journalists in that part of the country. He is also a member of the Uganda Journalists’ Association (UJA).

He is a Local Government Fellow (2014-2015) with the African Centre for Media Excellence. In this fellowship, Thembo has been trained in in-depth reporting of governance, accountability and service delivery issues in the local governments.

Locally, Thembo is the Programmes Manager for South Rwenzori Messiah Radio 97.5 fm, a local radio station that broadcasts in Western Uganda and Eastern DRC.

Thembo is passionate about Investigative Journalism, data journalism, science and technology (runs a daily segment about science on radio Messiah), human rights reporting and peace journalism (He is a trainer with the Uganda Media Development Foundation).

He is also growing up as a political analyst and this role has been doing it locally because he wants to shape the political trend of his country.

His professional motto is; an informed society is a transformed one.
