The most recent World Bank Report shows that approximately two billion people are globally “unbanked”, with the majority of this number being located in developing countries and emerging markets. Two billion people lacking formal financial services provides the mobile money industry opportunity to take advantage of this and provide these individuals with these services, along with converting this informal economy into a formal contributor of GDP in numerous countries. 

The advent of technology as well as the widespread use of mobile phones have led to an increase in the use of Mobile Money Services. Mobile payment solutions have been deployed as a means of extending financial services to the “unbanked” or “underbanked” communities, mostly the rural; providing people with a quick and easy medium to transfer and receive funds. Today, Mobile Money Service is provided by all the leading mobile networks in Ghana.
