Penplusbytes is launching its specially
designed Experiential Training in Creative Writing & Digital Journalism for
Senior High School (SHS) graduates at the New Media Hub in Accra.
The training (www.penplusbytes.org/events)
scheduled to take place over 4 Saturdays, will be held on June 18, June 25,
July 2 and July 9, 2016 and will take participants through an intensive experiential,
hands-on course aimed at intriguing young people about the craft of
journalism and introducing high school leavers to creative
writing skills. There is a converging point between technology and journalism
and Digital Journalism represents one of such points on which the future of
news making and dissemination rests.
The Executive Director of Penplusbytes,
Kwami Ahiabenu, II has said that “this programme is an avenue for job creation
in response to the growing demand of digital news organizations for multimedia
journalists, interactive producers and data journalists who can produce what
the consumer in this digital age is looking for; for news-on-the-go”.
“Further parents and guardians, looking to
help their wards develop real life skills in the time between leaving secondary
school and enrolling in University have few options and this is why we at
Penplusbytes have stepped in with a project that helps achieve the objective of
these parents” he said.
The training will cover areas such as
multimedia reporting, visual storytelling, data journalism and coding for
junior journalists.
These programmes integrate collaborative work
and discussion sessions with an opportunity for participants to undertake
project activities which includes visits to selected media houses. They also
stand to earn placements of up to 3 months industrial attachments at selected
media organisations which will help harness and nurture the inherent talents in
students who have just graduated from SHS as a way to reducing youth unemployment.
Admission is on first come first served
basis and interested applicants can register for this course by completing an
online form via http://ow.ly/P8ls300YkL9.
