The African University College of Communications (AUCC) in Accra will effective October 2009, introduce bachelor degree courses in Business Management Studies, Travel and Tourism, Media and Theatre Studies and Health Communications.
Mr. Kojo Yankah, President of AUCC announced this at the opening of a two-day international symposium on communication, new media and development currently underway in Accra on the theme "Assessing the contribution of communication and new media to human development in Africa.
The AUCC already runs diploma and degree programmes in Communication Studies with specialization in electronic and print journalism, Strategic Communications, Development Communication and Digital/Visual Communication. Short courses are also run regularly in ICT, Public Relations/Advertising and Marketing.
According to Mr Yankah, the AUCC aims to be Africa's best training centre for Journalism, Communication, Information Technology and Business Management Studies, providing opportunities for advanced learning, professional and practical application for the rapid growth and development of the African continent.
He said the symposium was initiated by the AUCC as part of its mission to deliver enriched learning experience and to promote practical and professional applications for the social, economic and cultural development of Africa.
"We seek to be relevant to the development process going on throughout the continent," he said, adding that the AUCC is keen on producing world-class graduates with a key sense of development orientation.
